PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of heat of parts in high-pressure electric discharge lamp lighting equipment, even when a lamp other than the high-pressure electric discharge lamp is inserted. SOLUTION: In the high-pressure electric discharge lamp lighting equipment, which consists of a high pressure electric discharge lamp La, a power supply for supplying lighting energy to the high-pressure electric discharge lamp, a circuit Ig which generates a high-pressure pulse which starts the high-pressure electric discharge lamp, and a lighting circuit which has a current-limiting element to be connected between the power supply and the high-pressure electric discharge lamp and carries out lighting and maintaining of the high-pressure electric discharge lamp steadily. At incorrect insertion, in which a lamp other than the high-pressure electric discharge lamp, including an incandescence light or a fluorescent light having the same shape cap, is inserted in a lamp socket, by detecting the misinsertion of lamp voltage, lamp current, lamp electric power or these changes, controls so that the electric power beyond necessity cannot be supplied to the lamp, to which the lighting circuit is misinserted, is performed at misinsertion detection. |
