A shuttlecock has a cap 31 and a skirt 32 (as in Fig. 7) formed of synthetic material, the skirt incorporating between seven and twentyfive stems 33, the stems incorporating for at least one centimetre of their length a blade-like portion 35, having at its broadest faces within 30 degrees of parallel to the radius 56 (as in Fig. 2) and a wing-like portion (e.g. member 4 as shown in Fig. 2) within 400 of a line at 90 degrees to the radius 5-6. As shown in Fig. 5, the blade 21 is set at 19 degrees to the radius 5<SP>3</SP>-6<SP>3</SP> and the wing 22 at 39 degrees to the line perpendicular to the radius 5<SP>3</SP>-6<SP>3</SP>. The mean thickness of the blade portion is not less than 0.3 mms. and the maximum thickness not more than 1.5 mms., and being between 7 mms. and 2 mms. in total breadth, and the wing-like portions not being less than 0.075 mms. thick. Various arrangements of blades and wings are described. |
