The invention relates to a braking device for a motor vehicle, wherein the primary piston (22) of the master cylinder is tubular and contains an assistance ratio control rod (30) whereby one end thereof is provided with a flap valve (32) for closing a passage (34) formed in a rapid piston (36) in order to communicate with the primary chamber (42) of the master cylinder and to cause the pressure prevailing in said primary chamber to act upon the end of the reaction piston (24), said reaction piston comprising means (52) which are elastically deformable when compressed, facilitating emergency braking by closing the passage (34) using said flap valve (32).
