PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information extraction apparatus that picks up the necessary item information from the data of complete printing plate automatically and generates a text data file registrable into a database. SOLUTION: The problems in the above are solved by an information extraction apparatus that is characterize by equipping extraction item setting means that define character information items to be extracted from small sections composing printing plate data, fix the correspondence with the fields of database to be produced and fix the conditions of extracting character information items from the printing plate data, extracted part registration means that define the character picture object of the printing plate data corresponding to each small section part as an extraction part which is the processing unit of information extraction performed later and the information extraction and recording means that specify the character information to be extracted from the printing plate data and record them into database files as the data of the corresponding field items, based on the settings of the foregoing extraction item setting means.
