ESSENTIAL UNSATURATED FATTY ACID METABOLITES HAVING BREAST CANCER CELL PROLIFERATION INHIBITING ACTIVITY

PURPOSE: Metabolites having breast cancer cell proliferation inhibiting activity, metabolized by 15-lipoxygenase from essential unsaturated fatty acid are provided which can be used as a therapeutic agent for treatment of breast cancer with low toxicity by inhibition of proliferation of a breast cancer cell line. CONSTITUTION: These metabolites are metabolized by 15-lipoxygenase from essential unsaturated fatty acid such as linolenic acid or linoleic acid and contain 15-HETrE(15-hydroxy-8,11,14-eicosa-tetra-enoic acid) as a linolenic acid metabolite which inhibits proliferation of a hormone-dependent breast cancer cell line and 13-HODE(13-hydroxy-9,11-octadeca-di-enoic acid) as a linoleic acid metabolite which inhibits proliferation of a hormone-dependent and non-hormone-dependent breast cancer cell line.
