PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic tape cartridge having high strength against a drop while securing the certainty of detection the existence of the cartridge. SOLUTION: In the magnetic tape cartridge which is used for a library system to detect the existence of the magnetic tape cartridge 1 by projecting an infrared ray(IR) R1 from an IR projector 30 and receiving the transmitted IR R2 by an IR detector 40, the cartridge 1 is formed by the material not including a glass fiber, and also a thickness part 2a having such an IR transmissivity that the detection level by an IR sensor when the cartridge exists becomes 30% or lower than that when the cartridge does not exist, is arranged on the IR transmitting part on the wall of the cartridge 1.
