Production of a composite strip (10) made from steel comprises plating a directly cast core strip on one side with an austenitic or high alloyed plating strip (8) having corrosion-deficient to corrosion-resistant cold strip properties; and heat treating the plating site at temperatures of at least 550 deg C. The core strip is treated on its path from the casting site to the plating site. Preferred Features: The core strip is introduced into an inert atmosphere on its path from the casting site to the plating site. The core strip is coated with a cyano salt, yellow potassium prussiate or calcium carbonate. A solder made from copper, silver or nickel is formed between the core strip and the plating strip.
