LOW COMPLEXITY CONVOLUTIONAL DECODER

Method and apparatus for decoding a convolutionally encoded sequence of bits encoded by an encoder with given generator polynominal. The encoded sequence of bits is decoded by a decoder which comprises an inverted given generator polynominal. The decoder is particularly designed for encoders having a code rate (1), including encoders utilized in EDGE/EGPRS communications systems. The decoder is less complex than Viterbi decoders, and is faster and requires less memory than Viterbi decoders.
