摘要 <p>At least one electrode of a fuel cell having a liquid electrolyte comprises on the electrolyte side a porous layer wholly consisting of a refractory metal oxide e.g. magnesia alumina, or zirconia and on the gas side a metal or alloy layer e.g. nickel, silver, gold, palladium or a silver alloy, the layers being separated by intermediate layers comprising a mixture of the refractory material and the metal or alloy, the proportion of metal or metal alloy in said intermediate layers increasing as the intermediate layers approach the metal layer. The electrode may be formed by simultaneously spraying the refractory oxide and metal on to a mandrel using either two blowpipes or a single blowpipe. Initially only one of the constituents is sprayed on to the mandrel, thereafter the ratios of the constituents is progressively varied until at the end of the process only the other constituent is sprayed. Alternatively the electrode may be formed by spraying a mandrel with a layer of one constituent followed by spraying with a sublayer e.g. one pass of blowpipe of the other constituent. A further layer of the first constituent is then applied followed by a slightly thicker sublayer of the second. The resulting electrode comprises alternate strata of metal and refractory oxide, the thickness of the metal strata increasing from the refractory layer to the metal layer and the thickness of the strata of refractory oxide increasing from the metal to the refractory layer.</p>
