The invention comprises 20-(11,41-dihydroxy-41 - methyl - pentyl) - D 7 - 5b - pregnene - 2b ,3b 14a -triol-6-one, and a process for the manufacture of a compound of the general formula <FORM:1105980/C2/1> wherein, in a compound of the general formula <FORM:1105980/C2/2> a 14a -hydroxyl group is introduced by the action of selenious acid or by a biochemical method by the action of a 14a -hydroxylating micro-organism or enzyme, for example the enzymes from strains of the genera Curvularia or Heliocostylum or Absidia regnieri.
