A method for the input of information into an evaluating unit where on the basis of a movement of the pencil, the changing coordinates forming a defined part of the surface of the pencil are contactlessly detected from the movement of the pencil and of the underlay by a spatially independent position detection unit with an optical sensor. The coordinates are passed to an evaluating unit in the position-detecting unit separate from the pencil, the latter being used in the same manner as a conventional pencil during use of conventional writing movements. INDEPENDEENT CLAIMS are given (A) for a pencil for carrying out the method and (B) A device for input of information.
