The selector fork (1) has a main body (4) of formed sheet metal. A section on the main body has a material coating, e.g. copper alloy on a base material, e.g. steel, bronze alloy, or brass alloy. The section is part of a formed slide shoe (2), which is welded to the selector fork. The base material is of unalloyed steel of drawing grade, and the coating material is brass alloy CuZn37 of a thickness corresponding to 1/20th of the overall thickness of the plate.
