The device has a frame (1) on which is mounted a tool carrier (14) which is adjustable by means of linear drives (12,13) about a workpiece table (3). As the device is designed to be simple in construction with only light mass, the carrier is connected to a tie beam arrangement (2) which consists of at least two arms (7,8) connected to each other by a hinged joint (9). A tool is connected to the rotating head (14') on the tool carrier. The two arms produce an even movement of the tool carrier across the workpiece table plane of movement. The tie beam drive is designed to move quickly to the required operating position.
