PURPOSE: A starting motor is provided to reduce the length of a shaft, and to install the starting motor conveniently by mounting a pinion in the end of a pinion shaft with overhang structure and by installing a stopper in the end of the pinion with a bolt. CONSTITUTION: A magnet switch(2) is installed in a starting motor housing(1), and a shaft(4) is mounted in an armature(3) of the starting motor housing. A pinion(6) and an overrunning clutch(5) are installed in the shaft, and the pinion is engaged with a ring gear to drive an engine. The nose part is eliminated from the starting motor housing, and a fixing supporting part(7) and a pinion insertion part(8) are formed in the end of the housing. A stopper(9) is installed in the front of the pinion to control the pinion. The starting motor is installed conveniently in the engine with overhang structure, and the length of the shaft is reduced.
