An automatic waste sorting line has a detector (6), which identifies particular components (2) of the mixture and then actuates air jets (7) to divert them to a chute (4) while allowing the remainder to fall into another chute (3). Further air jets (8) then divert lighter particles, especially film, to a third chute (5).
