An anti-turning device is located in the contact area between roller tappet and tappet push rod, to prevent turning of the tappet about its longitudinal axis relative to the tappet push rod. The device is formed by a peg (6), which is born in the push rod (2) and engages into an aperture (7) in the tappet. Alternatively, it may be formed by locating surfaces on tappet and push rod, or one or more locating springs.
