摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that a feed mechanism in electric discharge machining, which utilizes a conventional linear motor for a Z axis servo control feed and a jump reciprocation movement having a large vertical stroke, cannot fully display such ability of the linear motor as high responsibility and high- speed movement, and cannot make a contribution to an improvement of performance of a die sinking electric discharge machine. SOLUTION: The feed mechanism comprises a quill 8 movably mounted on a working head 7 having a hollow pillar shape as a whole or on a column 2, a linear guide unit 9, an air balancer 15 for making the column or the working head support the quill against gravity, permanent magnets 11A, 11B of which the predetermined number is arranged in a line on both sides of the quill which are perpendicular to the movement direction of the quill, a pair of yokes 10AY, 10BY attached to the working head so as to face each side of the quill provided with the permanent magnets via a small clearance, exciting coils 10AC, 10BC wound on to each yoke, a position detector for detecting a linearly moved position of the quill, and a driving unit for outputting an operating signal to the exciting coils while receiving a detected feedback signal of the position detector.
