PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel injection pump capable of reducing the noise of an engine by reducing that which occurs at driving of a plunger. SOLUTION: In the fuel injection pump which drives the plunger through a tappet by a cam circularly mounted on a camshaft to pump a fuel, the camshaft is rotatably supported in a housing 10 through a ball bearing 18 and slide bearing 19, and the drive of the plunger by the cam is performed in such a state that the tappet is slidable vertically in a tappet guide cylinder 31. In this case, the ratio of a tappet diameter to the inner diameter of the tappet guide cylinder is set within a range of 0.996±0.001.
