PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air conditioner, capable of regulating the operating condition of a compression refrigerating machine according to the cooling or heating load and the condition of exhaust heat, while being capable of conducting economical and efficient operation. SOLUTION: The air conditioner is constituted of an absorption water cooler and heater 1, utilizing exhaust heat as the heat source of a reclaimer, a plurality of compressors 6 as well as a plurality of heat source side heat exchangers 5 which correspond to the compressors and a compression refrigeration unit 3, equipped with one or more sets of utilization side heat exchangers 7 and connecting the compressors and the heat source side heat exchangers 5 corresponding to the compressors 6 in series through refrigerant circuits 14, 15 while connecting the utilization side heat exchangers 7 to a refrigerant circuit 16, in parallel through a refrigerant circuit. The heat exchanger 5a, corresponding to the first compressor 6a, is in a heat exchange relation between either or both of the absorption water cooler and heater 1 or the cooling water for a cooling tower 3 for the absorption water cooler and heater 1, while the heat exchanger 5b is in heat exchange relation between the atmosphere or the cooling water. Furthermore, the capacity of the first compressor 6a for the compression refrigeration unit 3 can be regulated, based on the temperature of the cold water or the hot water of the absorption water cooler and heater 1 or a physical amount related to the temperature, whereby a plurality of absorption water coolers and heaters 1 can be connected to a single set of the compression refrigeration unit 3.
