PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for preventing a dry firing of a bath boiler, capable of detecting dry firing phenomenon of the bath furnace easily and at a low cost. SOLUTION: An odor generating substance 3 is stored in a container 2 formed with a odor emanating port 4. An odor-generating part 1 is formed, in which the odor dispersion port 4 is sealed with a lid 5 made of a low-melting point metal. This odor-generating component 1 is mounted in advance at a bath furnace 6. The presence or non-presence of the odor generating substance 3 from the odor-generating component 1 is detected, and a dry firing at the bath furnace 6 is detected. With such an arrangement, the presence or non-presence of the odor-generating substance 3 from the odor-generating part 1 is detected to enable a dry firing phenomenon at the bath furnace 6 to be detected easily and at a low cost.
