PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binder for a printing ink having excellent adhesiveness to various plastic films such as polyester(PET), nylon(NY), polyethylene(PE) and polypropylene(PP) films and composed of a chlorine-free resin and provide a coating composition and a coating agent. SOLUTION: The binder for a printing ink contains (B) a hydrogenation product of a modified hydrocarbon resin obtained by the hydrogenation of (A) a modified hydrocarbon resin and (C) a polyurethane resin as main components. The printing ink is produced by using the binder for printing ink. The coating composition and coating agent contain the hydrogenation product B of a modified hydrocarbon resin A and the polyurethane resin C as main components.
