PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress deterioration of image quality caused by exposure processing according to a factor with time. SOLUTION: A densitometer 23 detects the density of an image formed by a test exposure. AOM 102R, 102G and 102B are controlled so that the variation from the predetermined value of the density of the image is compensated on the basis of ratio data obtained by comparing the density of the image detected by the densitometer 23 with the predetermined value of the density of the image. Therefore, density of the formed image hardly depends on the deterioration of laser beam sources 101R, 101G and 101B, the contamination of a scanning optical system such as mirrors 104R, 104G and 104B, a lens 106 and a polygon mirror 107, and the factor of deterioration with time such as the treating liquid 32 of a developing device 30.
