PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the accuracy of a positional relationship between a light- emitting element and a light-receiving element after adjusted in the position, and to facilitate a position adjustment work at a time of the position adjustment work for a transmission type optical sensor having the light-emitting element and the light-receiving element arranged opposite to each other via a paper path. SOLUTION: A pair of sensor racks 43b for holding the light-emitting element or the light-receiving element 42b arranged opposite via the paper path are moved symmetrically via the paper path by a ball screw mechanism and a gear train 50. The ball mechanism has a pair of sensor move shafts 45 with spiral guide grooves 45a each set about the axial center to an outer circumferential face, and looped members 44 fitted to be shiftable to the sensor move shafts 45.
