PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the occurrence of various inconveniences due to the entry of documents into a feeding and carrying passage 34 when opening the feeding and carrying passage. SOLUTION: A document carrying device comprises a document set tray 30 for storing documents P and a document feeding part 28 provided with the feeding and carrying passage 34 for passing and carrying the documents P. The document feeding part 28 can open the feeding and carrying passage 34, consisting of a first unit A in which the feeding and carrying passage 34 is mounted and a second unit B which is separated from the first unit A when the feeding and carrying passage 34 is opened. A matching roller 40 is provided along the feeding and carrying passage 34 and an entry preventing member 46 is provided in the first unit A for preventing the entry of the documents P at the upstream side of the matching roller 40 in the direction of entry of the documents P into the feeding and carrying passage 34 in the state of the feeding and carrying passage 34 being opened.
