PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a winding of a backing from being slid and removed off by collecting the backing (support) on a device for printer and realize an easy removal from the device. SOLUTION: The medium take-up and release device 20 is provided with a spindle 54 and a fin 56. An inclined part 68 is provided on an outer surface of the spindle 54. An angle of an inner side surface 72 of the fin 56 is coincident with that of the inclined part 68 of the spindle 54. The backing 34 is collected by winding the backing 34 around a take-up spindle 50. In order to remove the winding of the backing 34 from the take-up spindle 50, the fin 56 is slid along the inclined part 68 to shrink an outer periphery of the take-up spindle 50. The backing 34 can be easily slid on the take-up spindle 50 and can be removed by shrinking the outer periphery of the take-up spindle 50.
