<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily collecting high-purity metallic gallium from scrap of gallium-containing oxides, especially of oxides with a garnet structure. SOLUTION: The method for collecting metallic gallium from raw material of gallium-containing oxides comprises pulverizing the oxides, mixing it with carbon, heating the mixed powder at a predetermined temperature, reducing gallium, and collecting metallic gallium. The heating temperature is characterized by being higher than the temperature at which free energy of forming gallium oxide is larger than the free energy of forming carbon monoxide, and being lower than the temperature at which the free energy of forming other metal oxides included in the above oxides is larger than the free energy of forming carbon monoxide. Thereby, the method enables selective reduction and collection of metallic gallium.</p> |
