PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device which enables forward shift to become effective immediately, by returning shift lever to forward position, even if a shift switch preventing system is in operation and the shift lever has been changed temporarily to rearward or neutral position. SOLUTION: The shift control device comprises forward- and rearward- movement solenoids 5, 7, to control a drive mechanism to move a vehicle forward or rearward, forward- and rearward-movement solenoid-actuating relays 6, 8 for energizing these solenoids 5, 7 respectively, a shift switch for selectively energizing these solenoid actuating relays 6, 8, and a controller for controlling the opening/closing of these solenoid actuating relays 6, 8 according to a vehicle- running speed; both of the solenoid actuating relays 6, 8 being closed, when the vehicle running speed becomes lower than a predetermined level; and one solenoid actuating relay in the direction opposite to the vehicle running direction being open, while the other in the same direction with the vehicle running direction being kept closed, when the vehicle running speed is higher than the predetermined level. |
