PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To construct a method and an apparatus for manufacturing a multifilament yarn of a thermoplastic polymer in such a manner that they can fit easily quickly to various products so that constant textile mechanical properties of the various products can be achieved. SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a multifilament yarn of a thermoplastic polymer. Filaments are formed by melt spinning from a nozzle board, cooled to coagulate, wound up and guided to a yarn guide placed behind coagulation points of the filaments in such a manner that the height of the guide is changeable; and especially the filaments are arranged as a multifilament yarn. In the method, the tensile strength of the filament yarn or the multifilament yarn is measured behind the coagulation point, and the distance of the yarn guide from the coagulate point, accordingly from the nozzle board, is changed depending on the determined tensile strength of yarn.
