PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for producing a metallic ingot with which combustion preventive gas can be used without wasting the gas and a safe and efficient operation can be performed when the ingot is made from molten metal such as magnesium. SOLUTION: Molten metal is poured into a cooled ingot case 40 from a tundish 23 by tilting a melting furnace 10. The solidified and formed ingot is extruded from the ingot case 40 with an ingot extruding cylinder 36. The process is performed under a state of supplying SF6 gas as the combustion preventive gas into the melting furnace 10, the tundish 23 and the ingot case 40.
