PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a cylinder block of an engine to thereby prevent the increase in consumption of the lubricating oil of the engine and the dirt of the exhaust gas, and to provide a casting method of the engine cylinder block in which the productivity of the cylinder block is improved and the manufacturing cost is reduced. SOLUTION: A first breather room 51 which serves to return oil mist in the crankcase 40 to an air cleaner side is provided on a side face of the cylinder block 11. A window portion 52 is formed to open in the bottom of the first breather room 51, so that an outer surface 15a of a cylinder liner 15 is communicated with the first breather room 51 through the window portion 52. As a result, when the lubricating oil in the crankcase gets in between a cylinder block body and the cylinder liner, the lubricating oil can be discharged into the first breather room through the window portion so as to prevent the lubricating oil between the cylinder block body and the cylinder liner from oozing into a combustion chamber. Thus, the consumption of the lubricating oil by combustion can be suppressed and the exhaust gas can be prevented from being polluted.
