PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel for carburization suitable for such uses as a power transmission component, which can keep a high surface fatigue strength even when used in temperatures between semi-high and high temperature (in the order of 100-300 deg.C), and under hydrogen-generating environment. SOLUTION: The steel for carburization suitable for such uses as the power transmission component includes, by wt.%, 0.15-0.40% C, 0.50-1.50% Si, 0.20-1.50% Mn, 0.40-4.50% Ni, 1.50-3.0% Cr, and 0.50-2.0% Mo, and one or more from 0.05-0.40% V; 0.03-0.20% Ti, 0.03-0.15% Nb, 0.01-0.10% Al, and 0.0005-0.0030% B, and the balance Fe with unavoidable impurities.
