PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an instrument for a vehicle and its driving method which can reduce a mounting work and mount an instrument for a vehicle to be attached later even on a vehicle whose pulse signal number of a car-speed sensor is unknown. SOLUTION: For an instrument for a vehicle in which a pulse signal put out of a car-speed sensor mounted on a vehicle is put in for determining instruction of a speed of the vehicle based on the pulse signal, a control part (controlling means) 3 is provided so that a cycle T1 or a frequency f1 of the pulse signal at the point when a specific speed V of the vehicle is reached are acquired, a factor A indicating a change amount of the pulse signal against the speed of the vehicle is acquired based on the specific speed V and the cycle T1 or the frequency f1 of the pulse signal, and an actual speed v of the vehicle is acquired based on a cycle T2 or a frequency f2 of the pulse signal issued from the car-speed sensor according to the driving state of the vehicle.
