The drive and braking device is fixed to the frame of a wheelchair and comprises a motorised drive unit connected to a drive wheel (14) located between the running wheels of the wheelchair. The drive wheel can be lowered to be in contact with the floor. The drive wheel is mounted on a pivot arm (17) whose pivot point (D) is at approximately the same distance from the floor (24) as the rotational axis (18) of the drive wheel when it is in the lowered position. The drive wheel can also be fixed to a vertically operating guide frame. |
