PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface machining water jet device using a required minimum machined slug collecting box storing a nozzle head in performing given machining work as well as slug collecting work. SOLUTION: The surface machining water jet device comprises a cover pipe 9 externally inserted into a nozzle pipe 1, the machined slug collecting box 27 mounted at the end of the cover pipe 2 so as to be moved integrally with the cover pipe 2, and the nozzle head 2 stored in the machined slug collecting box 27. A high pressure water is jetted from the nozzle head 2 through an opening portion 28 of the machined slug collecting box 27 while moving the machined slug collecting box 27 together with the cover pipe 9 and the nozzle pipe 1, and slugs machined by high pressure water jet are collected into the machined slug collecting box 27.
