PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a high reduction ratio hypoid gear by modifying a Gleason type bevel gear cutting machine. SOLUTION: A detachable gear 15 is arranged in a roll change gear train 7, and a work spindle 5 and a cradle 6 are disconnected from a cam 3. An input gear 21 in a ratio change gear train 9 is connected to a generating motor 10 via a speed change gear train 22. The work spindle 5 and the cradle 6 are driven by the generating motor 10 independent of a driving motor 4. Limit switches are provided so as to engage with a gear 17 of the roll change gear train 7. Rotational directions of the generating motor 10 are controlled by timing signals output from the limit switches.
