Optionally thickened aqueous acid impregnating liquor suitable for dyeing poymeric and copolymeric acrylonitrile fibres contain in addition to at least one basic dyestuff, 1 to 10% by weight of surface-active polyglycol ethers or esters of organic hydroxyl carbonyl, amino or amido compounds or mixtures thereof, the compounds containing aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals having at least 8 carbon atoms and at least 4 ether groups, and alkanolamides of fatty acids having 8 to 14 carbon atoms, the pH of the preparation being adjusted to at most 4.5 with a water-soluble strong (i.e. the pk value for the first hydrogen being below 5) organic carboxylic acid, e.g. formic, acetic or tartaric. Preferred surface-active polyglycol ethers or esters are those of N-mono-alkyl or 6-monoalkenyl-mono, di, tri or tetra-ethylene or propoylenedi, tri, tetra or penta amines having at least 16 carbon atoms in the alkyl or alkenyl radical and at least 15, preferably 25-100, ethyleneoxy radicals 1 or 2 of which may be C-methylated or C-phenyl substituted. Dyeing p takes place by impregnating below the drawing temperature of the dye-stuffs, e.g. 30-40 DEG C, and then giving a heat treatment, e.g. steaming. Conventional thickeners are used and the liquors may contain solvents. The fibres may be dyed in the form of flocks, tops, yarn, fabrics, tow or raw stock, and deep shades are obtained. |
