PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a tumble flow T directed toward an injector 18 in a combustion chamber 6 within a cylinder during stratified combustion operation of an engine 1, and to inject fuel with appropriate force counter to the tumble flow T, thereby preventing imbalance between the fuel spray and the tumble flow resulting from changes of the intake air temperature and the atmospheric pressure when igniting combustible mixture piled up around an electrode of an ignition plug 16 just at the timing of ignition within the cylinder, so as to realize appropriate stratification of the mixture. SOLUTION: An intake air temperature sensor 46 is arranged in an air intake passage 30 of the engine 1 so that it detects the temperature of the intake air on the downstream side with respect to a connecting portion with an EGR path 43. A real port intake air density ganmap is calculated on the basis of the intake air temperature thae and the atmospheric pressure atp (SB2). The standard port intake air density ganmap* corresponding to the operating condition of the engine 1 is read from a map, and is compared with the real port intake air density ganmap (SB4, SB5) to thereby calculate a target fuel pressure and an amount of compensation of the fuel injection timing, based on the comparison result (SB6, SB7).
