PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method of forming an image wherein a troublesome work of adjusting by a jig is eliminated and a high quality image having a small shift amount at both ends of an image region can be obtained. SOLUTION: There is disclosed an image forming apparatus wherein a photosensitive drum 7 is scanned with laser lights L1, L2 in parallel in a main scanning direction at the same time. A time difference between times that the laser lights L1, L2 are received by a first sensor 5 provided to one side in the main scanning direction and a time difference between times that the laser lights L1, L2 are received by a second sensor 6 provided to the other side in the main scanning direction are calculated and a difference between activating timings for image data of the laser lights L1, L2 is set based on the time differences.
