The wearproof material comprises a matrix containing at least one hard constituent consisting of a carbide, nitride or carbonitride of at least one metal from groups IV, V or VI in the periodic system and 2-20 per cent by volume binding phase based on copper, nickel and/or iron. Furthermore, the material contains particles of aluminum trioxide and/or surrounded by an insulating layer of carbides, nitrides and/or carbonitrides of transition metals single or in combination.
