PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for gathering wire rod into a coil of any outer diameter by making a wire rod rings aligned or scattered without any use of an arm or a restricting bar. SOLUTION: In the wire rod gathering method that gathers the wire rod by dropping the wire rod rings approximately in parallel with the floor level into a tub, a plurality of fins having a taper to the horizontal direction are disposed in a side wall of the tub on an iris, and the dropping wire rod rings are made align by the fins always traveling them to the central direction. When traveling the wire rings into a scattered arrangement, the fins are brought apart from a closer to the center of the gathering tub.
