PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat reclining apparatus for vehicles which can improve strength and reduce the cost of making thereof. SOLUTION: A lock tooth 20 is provided with a recessed bearing part 23 to be rockably engaged with a shaft part 16 while a circular arc-shaped holding surface 24 to be slid formed coaxially with the bearing part 23 is disposed at a position on the side opposite to a tooth 21 sandwiching the bearing part 23. A machine frame 10 has a guide part 11A which holds an external force P in contact with the holding surface 24 to be slid as given when a rotating force of the machine frame 10 and a lid body 60 relative thereto acts on the shaft part 16 through an inner tooth gear 61 and the tooth 21. The guide part 11A has the rigidity thereof against the external force P set below that of the shaft part 16.
