PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing a solvent attached to the lower end section of a glass tube which is an obstacle to seal a fluorescent lamp, when a thin film on the inner wall of the glass tube, for example, a fluorescent film of the fluorescent lamp is formed by applying the solvent in such a manner that the lower end section of a vertically erected glass tube is dipped into the solvent, and the solvent is sucked up with a pump and is blown down by an air pressure. SOLUTION: The method for applying solvent, wherein a double pipe 4 comprising an external pipe 2 on which a tip and guide 4 is mounted and an internal pipe 3 is inserted into the glass tube 1 vertically held from its top and is stopped at a predetermined position, a solvent 6a is injected from a clearance between the external pipe 2 and the internal pipe and is attached to the glass tube 1, an excessive solvent 6a is sucked up with a pump from the internal pipe 3, the double pipe 4 is raised by a predetermined dimension at a predetermined speed and is then stopped, and the injection of the solvent 6a is simultaneously stopped also, thereby enabling to apply the solvent 6a to an area with only predetermined dimensions without attaching an excessive solvent thereto.
