PURPOSE: A device for recording and reproducing digital images is provided to grasp the state of a recording medium and judge the possibility of recording, thereby preventing errors from generating in recording. CONSTITUTION: A device for recording and reproducing digital images includes a record signal processor(21) changing input signals to be appropriate for record; an amplifier(22) amplifying the changed signals; a recording head recording the amplified signals at a recording medium; a reproducing head detecting the signals recorded at the recording medium; a pre-amplifier(28) amplifying the detected signals; a reproduction equalizer(27) equalizing the reproduced signals; a reproduction signal processor(26) receiving the equalized signal for restoring to the original signals; a channel error counting part(23) receiving information including error state of a channel, counting the error state of the channel, outputting an error signal if the error exceeds predetermined range; an error processor(25) executing an appropriate error process according to the error state.
