PURPOSE: A method of improving performance of an automatic transmission for reduction of fuel consumption ratio is provided to reduce fuel consumption ratio and to prevent abrasion of an engine. CONSTITUTION: In a method of improving performance of an automatic transmission for reduction of fuel consumption ratio, an accelerator pedal is set free while an automatic transmission vehicle runs and gears are automatically changed into Neutral state. Gears are automatically changed into Drive state simultaneously with operation of a brake pedal and the accelerator pedal. Therefore, the fuel consumption ratio is reduced.
