PURPOSE: A DSTN(Double Super Twisted Nematic) type liquid crystal display device is provided to improve the equal color change in the right and left sides and the viewing angle by using liquid crystal having a twist angle of 180° and the index of refraction of 0.165 or higher and disposed with a pre-tilt angle of 1° or less. CONSTITUTION: A DSTN type liquid crystal display device includes a display cell liquid crystal panel(10) and a compensating cell liquid crystal panel(30) facing each other and first and second polarization plates(11) attached to outer surfaces of the liquid crystal panels, wherein liquid crystal(15) in the display cell liquid crystal panel is formed by twisting by 180° and a refractive index of the liquid crystal is 0.165 or higher, and alignment directions of liquid crystal molecules of adjacent first to fourth alignment films(14,18,23,27) of the liquid crystal panels are perpendicularly to each other.
