<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber amplifier and a light signal amplification method capable of compensating for loss of a silica optical fiber by Raman amplification, by compensating for loss of a dispersion compensation fiber by Raman amplification, and using a silica optical fiber having Raman amplification function. SOLUTION: This optical fiber amplifier is equipped with a rare earth-doped fiber 51 and a dispersion compensation fiber 52 arranged into two stages, the front and back stage, an excitation light source 53-1 which generates excitation light of wavelength band for the rare earth doped fiber 51, an optical coupler 54-1 which enables exciting light from the excitation light source 53-1 to impinge on the rare earth doped fiber 51, an exciting light source 53-2 which generates expiration light of wavelength band for the dispersion compensation fiber 52, and an optical coupler 54-2 which enables excitation light from the excitation light source 53-2 to impinge on the dispersion compensation fiber 52. The dispersion compensation fiber 52 is excepted by the excitation light of a second wavelength band originating from the exciting light source 53-2 to produce Raman amplification.</p> |
