PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the occurrence of insufficient recharging of each pixel and to conduct a uniform displaying while increasing the resolution of an active matrix type display device. SOLUTION: An active matrix type display device has a plurality of signal electrodes, a plurality of scanning electrodes, a plurality of active elements connected to the signal and the scanning electrodes and pixels arranged in a matrix state. In the device, the voltage polarities of data signals put the scanning electrodes in a selective state over same plural horizontal scanning intervals and the selection intervals of the scanning electrodes are made same as the repeating intervals of the voltage polarities of the data signals. Thus, effective recharging time for the pixels is extended and irregularity in recharging for every scanning line caused by the differences in recharging intervals and recharging loads is eliminated.
