PURPOSE: Reflective and transflective LCDs and a method for fabricating the same are provided to remove the black matrix on an upper substrate and the UV shielding mask when curing a sealant, thereby simplifying the steps and reducing the raw material cost. CONSTITUTION: A transflective liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate defined with a display area and environmental areas, a second substrate(144) apart from the first substrate by a predetermined distance and stacked with color filters(136) and transparent common electrodes(142), a sealant(135) for joining the substrates together and formed on a reflection plate extended to the environmental areas of the first substrate, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the substrates, wherein the first substrate(146) includes gate and data wires intersecting each other via a first insulating layer on the display area for defining pixel areas, thin film transistors(TFTs;T) formed in intersections between the wires, a second insulating layer formed on the TFTs and the first insulating layer, the reflection plate(120) extended from the display area to the environmental areas and having transmission holes at parts corresponding to the pixel areas, a third insulating layer etched with the second insulating layer for exposing drain electrodes partially, and pixel electrodes formed in the pixel areas on the third insulating layer to contact the drain electrodes.
