PURPOSE: The genes associated with synthesis of trehalose isolated from Sulfolobus hakonesis and proteins encoded thereby are provided. Therefore, the trehalose can be more effectively produced because it has improved heat resistance and high trehalose production yield. CONSTITUTION: A ShMTH (maltooligosyltrehalose hydrolase) gene isolated from Sulfolobus hakonesis having the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 is provided. A recombinant vector pRBShMTH(KCTC 1006BP) contains the ShMTH gene of SEQ ID NO: 1. A ShMTH protein having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 2 is provided. A transformant produced by transforming a host cell with the recombinant vector pRBShMTH(KCTC 1006BP) is provided. A ShMTS(maltooligosyltrehalose synthase) gene isolated from Sulfolobus hakonesis having the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 3 is provided. A recombinant vector pRBShMTS(KCTC 1007BP) contains the ShMTS gene of SEQ ID NO: 3. A ShMTS protein having the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 4 is provided. A transformant produced by transforming a host cell with the recombinant vector pRBShMTS(KCTC 1007BP) is provided.
