PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection circuit for secondary batteries formable, without requiring special processes, such as zener zapping and laser trimming, and enabling setting the detection voltages with high accuracy, and to provide an adjusting method therefor. SOLUTION: A voltage of 4.3 V/2.4 V is given from a variable DC power supply 2 to a terminal Vdd, while a clock is inputted thereinto from a clock terminal. This clock is counted by a counter 25, the counted value is decoded by a decoder 26; and by giving the decoded to a latch and D/A converter 21/22, its current is made to vary the resistance value of a resistor R11/R13. The decoded value by the decoder 26 is latched by the converter 21/22, when the polarity of a terminal Cout/Dout is inverted. The latched value determines the resistance value of resistor R11/R13 and determines the detection voltage for detecting over discharging overcharging.
